Business Summary
Asciano Limited is a transport infrastructure company. The Company owns and operates a range of infrastructure assets, including ports and rail across Australia. The Company’s rail and port businesses operated through three divisions: Pacific National Coal (PN Coal) Pacific National Rail (PN Rail) and Patrick. PN Coal is a coal rail haulage operator in the Australian market. As of June 30, 2011, PN Coal had approximately 73% of the coal haulage market in NSW and approximately 13% of the coal haulage market in Queensland. PN Rail, through its Intermodal business is a carrier of interstate rail freight and an Intermodal rail operator. As of June 30, 2011, the PN Rail fleet consisted of 317 locomotives and 6,813 wagons. Patrick is a container terminal operator in Australia. The Company has long term lease concessions for the operation of terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle.

BRIEF: For the fiscal year ended 30 June 2011, Asciano Group's revenues increased 7% to A$3.06B. Net income totaled A$176.8M, vs. a loss of A$788.5M. Revenues reflect an increase in income from Coal business segment. Net income also reflects increase in lease rental income, higher gain on sale of property, plant & equipment vs. a loss, rise of other income, lower corporate charges in Patrick segment and decrease pf depreciation charges on Patrick segment.
