Whitehaven Coal Limited (Whitehaven) is a coal producer in the Gunnedah Basin. The Company is engaged in the development and operation of coal mines in New South Wales. During the year fiscal year ended June 30, 2011 (fiscal 2011), Whitehaven and its controlled entities continued development at the Narrabri underground mine. Whitehaven operates five mines in the region: Narrabri (underground), Rocglen (open cut), Sunnyside (open cut), Tarrawonga (open cut) and Werris Creek (open cut). The Company operates in two segments: Open Cut Operations and Underground Operations. The Gunnedah Operations include the Tarrawonga (70% owned by Whitehaven), Rocglen (100% owned by Whitehaven), and Sunnyside (100% owned by Whitehaven) open cut mines and the Gunnedah coal handling and preparation plant and train load out facility (CHPP) (100% owned by Whitehaven). The Werris Creek mine is 100% owned by Whitehaven. The Narrabri mine is 70% owned by the Company.

Financial Summary
BRIEF: For the semi annual ended 31 December 2011 Whitehaven Coal Limited's revenues increased 7% to A$340.4M. Net income totaled A$19.9M, vs. a loss of A$35.1M. Revenues reflect a significant increase in revenue from open cut operations segment. Net income was offset by an significant decrease in Operating expenses, lower Other expenses, an significant increase in Finance Income and lower Financing expenses.
